I really believe in breaking everything into bite size pieces, whether it be a workout you want to do everyday or setting a record on the 95 mile Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier. I know that if I can just start something (a workout, a race, a plan) my chances of continuing it, completing it or being consistent with it are much greater. Any workout that I have as a daily workout is kept simple and relatively short. That’s because it’s too easy to tell ourselves we don’t have time for a longer or more intense workout. But if the daily workout MINIMUM is 10 minutes there’s no excuse. None. So I give my self a minimum and usually do a lot more! It might be as simple as: you have to do at least one set of 5 pull-ups everyday. Once I get started the 2nd, 3rd, 4th... etc become increasingly easy. I swear it’s a law of science or some shit. It works. For races or the Wonderland Trail (pictured here is the note I made to break it down based on water sources), I like to break down the route based on 5-12 mile segments or break it down based on aid stations (for races). Then I just think about getting to the next 5-12 mile location, not going another 60, 70, 90 miles! This is how people go MENTALLY from doing a 50k to doing a 200 MILER!
