If anything will make you believe in magic, it’s sleep deprivation! One of the most fantastical, weird, and memorable times in my life was running 225 miles on Australia’s West Coast last February for the Delirious WEST 200 mile/350km race. Palaces instead of tree stands, insects the size of cattle dogs on the beach instead of giant heads of kelp and a mission: to get from the start to the finish in 1st place... these races are even better than any story book, even better than a movie. In 72 hours I slept less than 10 minutes, just 2 tiny dirt naps to reset my eyes. I’d do it again tomorrow. Or next week. Or next month. Heck, I’d live in that world if I could where there is meaning and purpose and life is only as complicated as one foot in front of the other. This is why I love ultras, they simplify life into the most basic needs and necessities and strip us down past any layers we have padded ourselves with over time. We peel the onion, until there’s nothing left. This photo was taken about 10k from the finish. I didn’t want to be done, but I was also excited beyond measure. The onion had been peeled! P.S. you’ll have to check out my latest podcast @humansofultrarunning that will be live this weekend. It’s a compilation of recordings — my story of this crazy and wild race! I hope you love it 💗 #200isthenew100 #200miles #deliriouswest200 #runner #athlete #running #run #ultramarathon #ultrarunning #trailrunning #australia #bibblumuntrack #endurance #challenge #hallucinations #peeltheonion
