Clare Gallagher, le texte de sa publication du 07-01-2019 21:51:23 :
When the government shuts down, most public lands remain open, but many lack the staff to monitor and maintain the human elements of public lands. Like plowing, maintaining bathrooms and trash, and operating the beloved visitor centers.
Here at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, the trails were open, just no staff working. That doesn’t mean the fragile wildlife and ecosystems protect themselves.
Thankfully, there wasn’t trash piled up like at the most popular Parks. More interestingly though, we encountered water cashes stashed by Humane Borders for migrants traveling through the inhospitable Sonoran Desert.
Will a fence protect this land more? Absolutely not. A functioning government that does its job will. So will individuals like you and me who are committed to protecting the people, plants and ecosystems our country claims to defend.
Thanks Senator Michael Bennet for highlighting what a travesty this shutdown is. And again, not to mention how horrible it is for Native Reservations which have a deal with the federal government to fund the most basic of services—which aren’t being funded right now.
