Aren’t cactuses the coolest!? 🌵 As desert expert Lydia Jennings taught me, saguaros are considered elders of the desert. They live for hundreds of years! Just the main stem takes over 75 years to grow.

Native to the Sonoran Desert, they are a keystone species. But, as you could guess, climate change is impacting their reproduction rates from drought and warmer average temperatures. They aren’t endangered, but their threatened vitality is symbolic for what climate change is doing to all plants and animals, let alone millions of human climate change refugees. Can you imagine if we knowingly hurt our human elders by reducing their water sources? Oh wait...
