The hard Colombia 🇨🇴 lesson we learned today:

THE SHOCK, THE FATIGUE , AND THE MOUNTAINS THAT STILL AWAIT ICA

“Tell you the truth “ said quietly our French Clement Carisey . “I think I am more shocked then fatigued. 70 percent shocked”

Clement is not a soft fellow. On the contrary. The 26 years old from Lyon is a tough kid. But what he and his buddies learned today on the hilly stage of Tour Colombia will not be forgotten quickly. And better not. If we want to get better. And much better .

Because today 174 km 2900 meter up and down was a stage that broke the back of the best of the best including the legend himself - Chris Froome. Yes. Actually we saw it happened and some of our riders were part of his group when they were dropped.

The start was the first step to disaster for many ( and fane for others). Team Quick-Step were going full gas frim the first meter and in seconds the super pace caused a huge crash. 80’percent of the peloton just came to a halt.

Then came the rush back. And there we had our first victims. Israeli Roy Goldstein was the first to succumb: “ I went as hard downhill and then to the climb with Edwin ( Avila ) and even Chris Froome behind me. But on the climb I just exploded “.

The fact that even Froome has cracked was no solace.

For the others the same scenario happened but just later. Our Sprinter Mihkel Räim was next to drop and soon was out of the race like Roy. In the last part of the stage it was only our Colombian Edwin Avila and Daniel Turek who made it to the next to last climb with the remaining small Peloton. But they were out of the game and far back when the Big boys from Movistar Team and the winner Julian Alaphilippe from Deceuninck - Quick-Step Cycling Team - took battle.

Analyzing some of our riders power numbers later it was clear they went hard . ( look st Daniel Turek numbers below) .

But it was far from enough. Far from it.

“The pace was just more then we could handle” said Clement.

Lesson thought the hard way. The harshest way.

Tomorrow will be even harder. Get ready.
