‘What do you do besides run?’ is a pretty common question I hear from people.
One aspect of ancillary training involves two sessions per week in the weight room, where I do exercises and movements to make me a stronger and more powerful athlete. The box jump is an exercise that doesn’t come naturally to me, and it’s satisfying to see my form and height improve over time.
Weight room numbers don’t correlate directly to specific running or race paces, but I’ve noticed that I feel really good on runs and in workouts the day after a strength session.
