One of my favorite people in the world is my sister, Mariele Wardian, and she is also a vegetarian and here is a little about her journey:

1) How long have you been vegetarian/vegan:
Around 22 years as a vegetarian.

2) What was your first vegetarian/vegan meal:

We did a lot of breakfast for dinner as a child and I wasn't a big bacon or sausage person so probably that.

3) What is your favorite vegetarian/vegan dish:

My mom's shish kabobs. Just veggies on a stick on the grill. Crispy and delish.

4) What food did you think you would miss and didn't:

Chicken nuggets.

+++

5) What food did you find since becoming a vegetarian/vegan that you absolutely love:

Dolmas- the ones from whole foods are the bomb. I can eat a quart of those.

6) What is you favorite vegetarian/vegan race aid station fuel:

Potato chips and oreos. Omg oreos - yum.

7) What is your vegetarian/vegan junk food:

Earth Balance Cheddar Puffs. I only buy them like twice a year because I cannot stop eating them.

😎 Which vegetarian/vegan restaurant is on your bucket list:
My brother Mike found this vegan cheesesteak place in Philly called Wiz Kid. It sounds amazing.

9) What is the hardest thing about being a vegetarian/vegan:

Travel! I never prepare enough and end up desperation eating bags of chex mix and sad fruit cups at airports. I recently traveled to Ireland and at potatoes with 2 sides of potatoes since they were the "vegetable of the day". Go figure.

10) Who are some vegetarian/vegans that you follow:
I was lucky enough to get to know Doron Petersan thru DC connections and her restuarants are always a source of inspiration and a treat to visit. As for others - Smitten kitchen, ottolenghi, cookie and kate, minimalist baker are all in my bookmarks. Often I just modify meat recipes that sound good.

11) What is your best vegetarian/vegan recipe:

My mom's shepherd's pie made vegan with crumbles or mushrooms, peas and mashed potatoes. "Chicken" tortilla soup too.

12) What did you wish you knew before becoming vegetarian/vegan:

That it isn't actually that hard and how great beans are. I love beans!

13) How many of your friends have been inspired to eat less meat or try vegetarian/vegan diet:

I think the culture is really shifting now towards a less meat centric diet and having people in your circle to connect with makes this transition easier. People are much more open to trying vegan food now and it tastes so good it's hard to hate on it.

14) What is your favorite veggie or fruit:

Strawberries and spinach.

15) Is the rest of your family vegetarian/vegan also:

Just my brother but they all eat a lot less meat now than they did.

16) Where do you get your protein:

Beans, eggs, nuts, tofu and faux meats. I hate protein powders and bars so I generally avoid those.
