I was 19 years old when I passed through Mexico City for the first time. I came in on a bus from the south, caught a taxi straight through to another bus terminal and was on my way out as quickly as I entered. To be truthful, I was scared to death of the size of the city. I hadn’t ever lived in a big city or spent much time in them either.
.
Fast forward a bunch of years and I find myself here again with a new appreciation of cities - how they form and operate, why we love them and why we hate them, why they’re good for us and why they destroy us.
.
Following my previous project of running every street in San Francisco, NO, I am not going to run every street in Mexico City, but I’m going to run a lot of them. Over the next nine days I’m going to be getting to know the various downtown neighborhoods. Of this bowl full of people high up in the mountains of central Mexico. Today, I’ll be starting in the neighborhood where I’ve settled for the time being - a little south of the city center.
.
Feel like joining in on the challenge? Come on! It’s only nine days! Tag #everysinglestreet and @salomonrunning and good things will happen to you. Or you might win some shoes or something. 🤷🏻♂️
