EATING on the RUN:Good morning, I’m going to do a Q and A for our readers once a week so please send in your questions. We will answer one each week-
Question- I run with some ladies who are AMAZING. They can keep a fast pace and out run me every time. We run at 6am as we are all busy mums. What would you suggest I eat before a 6am run? Normally I head out with no food or water but running with them is next level! Last weekend I grabbed a bliss ball just as I was leaving which I think helped. I would love your thoughts!
Answer- Thanks for your question. Every Monday I go for a long run (because the weekend I’m
Often racing), & I won’t eat anything beforehand as I run fasted. However I’ll ensure that the night before I’ll top up carb supplies like rice or potatoes with dinner. I might take a gel or two on the run, though won’t start eating straight away. Racing is different I start eating after 20 min. Depending on how long you run , you could adopt my approach or just eat something easily digestible like a banana, an easily digestible carb and something you like. You could take a hand held bottle with some drink in it like a sports drink. I’ll always eat straight after every run, even if I don’t feel like it. I sometimes feel slightly unwell after a hard training session so I’ll take a Balance protein shake vanilla flavour.
