Your mental wellness can power you through a run. Believe, love and be in the moment.
I had high anxiety before the Buller Gorge Marathon the night before and found spending half an hour colouring in and drawing pictures with crayons really helped calm my mind. I drew balloons reminding me of my family who I’ll see for a celebration next week, including my nieces. I drew hearts and wrote words of kindness, I drew the river. We found this helped us both in the run. It calmed my mind by active relaxing. Self doubt does creep in no matter how many hours of training I do, however staying relaxed helps me run my best, be my best and focus only on myself and never on the competition I focus on me.
