We started yesterday morning aiming to walk the Kepler Track 60km loop, got up to the Luxmore Hut, Mt Luxmore, Te Anau yesterday afternoon and planned to head on further today, though given rainfall and 100km winds we cut the trip short and headed back down the mountain today. It was around 9 hours over the two days, and I’ve snuck in some training runs too, before the start of our walk. It was raining the whole time, lots of rainfall, though not cold walking up the hill, especially after running or hiking the Northburn Mountain ultra on Saturday. It was tough being out there in a lot of rain for hours!
We are going to do a day or half day walk tomorrow in Te Anau and will venture out on the flatter trails (after a run in the morning), I think the weather will improve. It’s spectacular to be in this epic part of NZ.
Always play it safe where Mother Nature is concerned and look after each other. This is our second great walk this year, and so would love to do all of the Great walks over the next year.
