Stage four Santos Tour Down Under

The extreme heat continues to make life unbearable in the peloton, curbing the riders' effort until the final climb.

The 41°C temperature and final climb took its toll and 35 riders arrived to contest the finish with Laurent Didier sprinting to 10th and Ruben Guerreiro to 16th.

This is what Laurent had to say:

"For me in the extreme heat or extreme cold my body always works well. Today was really, really warm and it was all about the last climb to not go too deep so to have an explosion and I made my rhythm.

"In one moment after the GPM (mountain sprint) the group split and I was more in the back. Danny Moreno closed the gap to that group and I followed him and he continued to the 1km [to go] mark, and so I was actually then in the good position for the last turn, but then the pure sprinters like Sagan passed me to the line. But I am happy for today.

"Tomorrow will be the day for the GC where we will try and make a good result with Ruben."
