Giro d'Italia stage 5

It was a wet (very wet!) race making for a treacherous finale. The race jury made a decision early to take the time of the GC at the start of the local lap with around 9kms to go. This made the finish for the sprinters and their teams only and the GC contenders could sit back and ride it in safely.

As a result, no changes to the GC with Bauke Mollema still in 7th place and Giuilio Ciccone keeps the Maglia Azzurra he has held since day 1. Matteo Moschetti went it alone in the fast finish, sprinting to a very nice 5th place.

Reactions of Matteo Moschetti:

1. On the difference sprinting in the Giro to other races:

"In smaller races there's maybe one big sprinter and his team, here there's many important sprinters with their whole team and this is the biggest difference with the Giro. It's also more nervous. I think the most important is the position, and in the last 300 meters it's really crucial."

2. On his 5th place today:

"It was a good result for sure because if you look at the names of the guys who are in front of me they are all big names, strong guys. I am happy but not 100%. I want always to play for the victory.
